This is one of my favorite challenges because we already do this lol. We are so lucky and blessed to have my parents just two towns over and thank goodness, they love having the kids over. They actually make us come over every sunday for dinner. Truthfully, I know that it doesn’t matter if Hubby and I even go; all they care about is seeing the kids at least once a week.
We also get lucky that Hubby’s family in Ohio loves to see the kids and whenever we visit, my Mother-in-law practically steals my children and keep them with her during the whole visit. We make a point to ask her if she’d like us to take them off of her hands at any point, but we get shooed away and she basks in the crying, crankiness that is my children. Kristen says to make a point of planning some time away with just each other, and even if that doesn’t happen until 2012, at least start the planning to get the fire sparked. We’ll be taking our trip together for a blog conference this summer and will be alone for at least 2 and a half days. I’m pretty excited about that and so is hubby even though he’ll be spending lots of time in the room waiting for me to get out of classes.

i’m lucky to have most of my family and his family all basically within 30 minutes of us so the kids have had a few one night overnights at my parents’ and sister’s houses. This summer we’ve got a 2 night stay at Ocean City, MD while the kids stay with my parents!! Can’t wait!! Another one we’re planning for in the fall is a one night camping trip in MD. that is tied in with our first 5K run.
I completely agree that getting away together is important. For me, I don’t even need to go anywhere though. Just a night at home where the kids aren’t there is good too if you can’t afford to go somewhere else
