While I was making the DIY Instagram coasters last week, I felt the need to get sparkly. I also wanted to do something different but stick with the DIY coaster theme. My Mother In Law is in love with the color purple and I had some glitter on hand from a rogue trip to Hobby Lobby. Don’t you just love rogue trips to the craft store? Add in a cup of Starbucks and you are doomed to by up the most random stuff. Since the Instagram coasters were so easy, I figured making some cool glitterati types should be just as mundane. It was!
Step 1: Place some newspaper down and place the tile on top. Turn over the tile and place a dot of hot glue on each corner. This will help the coaster not scratch any tables when used. You can also use special corner tabs that they sell, wait for it, at the craft store. Actually, those might work better, so keep a lookout for them.
Step 2: Once the glue is dried (the fabric pieces are dry), turn it over, and on a clean tile, wipe on a heavy hand of mod podge. Does this remind you of Kindergarten yet? It should…
Step 3: Sprinkle on LOTS of glitter over the tile, making sure to get every sticky crevice.
Step 4: Allow the glitter/podge to dry for at least 10 minutes. Go back over the coaster with another layer of podge to seal it all in.
Let it dry completely, about 2 hours to overnight. Stack them up and tie with a box to give as a present. That’s it y’all! It’s just that easy. These would be a great New Year’s Eve hostess gift with a side of wine glasses. Have a happy 2013!
These are CUTE! My son loves to play with glitter so this would be a great craft for him. Hmm…or maybe not. 🙂 I want to make some though!

Great idea. I actually thought to paint the coaster the color of the glitter so that none of the foundation color shows. I’m always up for a quick DIY project, especially when it involves glitter.
I missed the instagram tiles – need to go back and check them out. I love these, though – so perhaps I’ll go crazy with tiles this week?
So easy and yes, great for gifts or inexpensive items to sell as well…..this is a great activity to do with tweens and teens, I would think, too.
