DIY Instagram Coasters

Sharing is caring!

Thanks for stopping by, Pinterest lovers! If you like these Instagram coasters, be sure to check out my super easy Glitter Coasters! Perfect for Mother’s Day ;-).

I keep seeing this pinned all over Pinterest so I just had to try it out. But, to make it truly frugal, I didn’t dare buy photo printer paper, or *gasp* PAY to have small instagram pictures printed from an online company for an insane amount. In the words of Sweet Brown “Aint nobody got time (or money) for that!” I ended up making 10 of DIY Instagram Coasters in less than 20 minutes. Let’s get crafting!

What you’ll need:
Mod podge
Tiles
Hot glue gun
Painting sponges
Scissors
A printer
Spray can of protective coat (optional)

Step 1: Pull up the most awesome site of all free photo editing sites, Pic Monkey. Select “Create a Collage,”and then upload the pictures you want to use. I used some of my favorite instagram pictures but you can use whatever pictures you want, really. I also decided to make some for a bloggy friend of mine and send to her for Christmas. I luh her. Anyway,  select “Square Deal,” pick the very first option, then pick the four pictures you want to use.

Step 2: Save your collage. I saved mine to my desktop so it was easy to find, and also easy to delete once I was finished.

I got my tiles from Lowes for 20 cents each. They have tiles as low as 10 cents as well, but I liked the look of these.

Step 3: Open up your picture and select print. You can print on regular paper, just make sure that you select “best quality” under your printer options.

Step 4: Turn your tiles over and place some hot glue on each corner. I made little beads of glue but I suggest your make them like round discs instead. This will keep the coasters from scratching up any tables.

Step 5: While the glue dries, cut out your pictures. Depending on your tile, you may need to cut them down to fit. If they are a little big for the tile, that’s OK too. the picture will just overlap onto the sides.

Step 6: Once the glue is dry, turn over and wipe down the tiles. I used a baby wipe. Then place a picture on top of the tile. If you need to cut it down, go right ahead.

Step 7: Apply a light coat of mod podge onto the tile and place the picture on top. Make sure it’s centered. You’ll also want to push any bubbles out. I used an old camcorder tape to do so. I put it at the top of the picture and slid down. I also pushed the pictures down around any parts of the tile that weren’t flat. These particular tiles had some crevices on the sides. Once you get them all done, Place them under something heavy, like a stack of heavy books for 10 minutes.

Step 8: Take them out and apply mod podge on top of the pictures. I one heavy-handed coat. I wanted to get that “streak” effect on the top. I like the way it “antiques up” the picture. If you want a more clear picture, apply a light coat, let dry, then apply another coat.

Step 9: Once they are dry, you can add a protective coat to it if you like. I got a spray can of protective coat at Hobby Lobby for 3.60 after 40% coupon.

Step 10: Allow ample time to dry, then wrap up and give away!

These are the finished tiles. I accomplished the streaks that I wanted and it was very easy. I can’t wait for my Mother-in-Law and my bloggy friend (The wonderful A’driane from Butterfly Confessions) to see their gifts.

Beautiful! I love mod podge, it’s so great for crafting. We’ve done tiles in the past as well, and last year I made pencil holders from blocks of 4×4 wood and put pictures on each side for the inlaws.

I had to check out the instagram tiles as well. Looks like another simple, easy, quick DIY. (PS – I made a whole new board on instagram for these DIYs. Summertime calls for simple cheap stuff to do with the kids, right?)

Glad to know I always find great stuff at #SITSSharefest
