Rehabilitation

As you read this post, it will be almost 24 hours since I had my oral surgery. On Monday, I’ll be getting out yet another wisdom tooth. This one is a doozy though, since it’s impacted, grown in sideways, has a cavity and an infection. I wrote about this “toothache” a few weeks ago, and I’m still looking at it in a positive manner. This is the last big surgery I should have to have on my teeth and I can’t wait to only see my Dentist just for cleanings. But, as I run around the house, preparing meals, folding laundry and pulling out my favorite movies and gadgets I use during my sick time, I can’t help but think of how sickness/surgery pans out so differently for Moms than it does for Dads.

My husband will be taking Monday off from work to take me to surgery. I have him for the rest of that day, then at 6am on Tuesday, he’ll be back at work. And so will I. Back to getting Sonny to the bus stop on time, back to getting the Duchess to sit on the potty, back to blogging, and back to trying to keep my house together. Or will I? As I remember from the last time I had a tooth taken out, I was pretty much in a daze for about 3 days. To tell you the truth, I don’t remember much of those days, and I wasn’t even put under that time! This time, I have to be given general anesthesia, so I won’t be back to my usual self for a while. But, I’ll have to overcome. I’m mom, and life stands still when mom is out of commission. Dad? Not so much. My husband gets the best of the best when he’s sick: the kids dote on him and I take of it all plus a sick 250 pound baby. He gets all off his favorite meals cooked, homemade soups, and a day (or two) of video games. I’ve seen so many other Moms comment on Facebook that their husbands get the same treatment. So yet again, I say, What about Mom?

Well, it’s about 6 minutes until we’ll have to hop in the car and make our way to the oral surgeon. I’m excited to have the pain gone for good and recuperate with help for the next 18 hours. Is it too late to buy thumbs for the cat so he can make breakfast in the morning?

This is so true! No matter what you are going through, you never stop being a Mother. I hope all goes well for you!

Sometimes I get really jealous. When the husband is sick he doesn’t have to worry about taking care of the home or meals etc. When I’m sick…I still have to fight through it while I manage the kids, get meals etc. It’s so not fair. lol.

I wish you luck on getting your tooth out! I still remember getting my wisdom teeth out. They all came out at once, but I had to be put under too. It was a very hard recovery for me. But I don’t do well with surgeries at all.

Good luck girl! I just had a root canal yesterday and am still a little sensitive. Be sure to have ibuprofen on hand. :)

Sending you wishes of a speedy recovery! I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth surgically removed at the same time back when I was about 20 years old. I think I lost a few days from all the pain medications back then too. 1 of my teeth was impacted but none of them were infected or really causing me pain, we just decided it would be best to get them all out at once. Feel better soon!

Remember, ice and ibuprofen are your friend. Do both faithfully without waiting for signs of swelling. I’ve been through this before and I speak from experience. Which means I am also sending healing thoughts your way. Heal fast!

I absolutely hate the dentist’s office. And I’m heading in next week to get two wisdom teeth pulled as well :( Luckily it’s a routine procedure but I’m dreading it.
