In order to keep up with a Frugal lifestyle, it does help to know when to hold on to your money and when is a good time to stock up, buy at the best price and upgrade things that you may need in your home at a deep discount. I decided that each month I’ll share a list of items you should be keeping an eye out on. Feel free to bookmark these posts for future reference!
This January, keep an eye on:
Appliances
Since January is when new versions of appliances are released, now is the perfect time to grab up those “older generation” appliances at a great discount. In the market for a new blender or toaster? Grab it up closer to the end of the month when they will be on sale. Stretch your dollars by shopping at stores with coupons, like Bed Bath and Beyond. If you are an online shopper, make sure to sign up for sites like Shop At Home and Ebates to get money back on your already discounted items.
Flatware and China
This is a great tip for those of us that may have lots of graduation parties and Weddings to attend this coming spring and summer. New China patterns and flatware (knives, forks, and cutlery sets) are released in the beginning of the year, so this is a great time to grab up the older items. It you are giving these as gifts, stick with the basic patterns and simple flatware. Hint: white plates will never go out of style.
Bed clothes and Towels
Companies are looking to display new items and patterns with the coming of the new year, and this even includes bedding and towels. Use this time to get great deals on both of these items. If you find some at a great price, stock up for your own household and for more gifts for graduates and newlyweds. Online deals tend to be better when it comes to housewares, so search your favorite websites for great deals.
Furniture
The end of January and beginning of February brings in new furniture designs. If you are in the market for a new sofa, bed or dining table, take a peek at your local stores around the end of the January. If you can wait even longer, try going in at the beginning of February and negotiating a deal. Don’t worry, I’ll remind you about this potential deep discount next month.
Air Conditioners
Did you have an AC that was on the fritz by the end of the summer? Now is the best time to grab a replacement at a discounted price. Since they are out of season, companies are looking to increase their sales before summer, when the newer models will be released. This would also be a great gift for family members that may need them. It sure would be an interesting Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or birthday gift!
Electronics
New electronics for everyone! Due to the lack-luster sales of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, companies will be falling over themselves in the next few weeks to get rid of older gadgets to make room on the display floor for new items. Best Buy will be putting HDTVs, computers, smaller tablets and other electronics on sale at their stores and online. Here’s a great tip: if you see an item on sale at Best Buy, make sure to search the price of that item on Amazon.com. Best Buy will price match items on Amazon, even sale items. Just show them the price on your phone, and the manager can sell it to you at the online price. The best part? You won’t have to worry about shipping!

I went out today with the goal of buying an “interview” suit or outfit. I had a $50 off $100 coupon for a particular store but there wasn’t a single thing I liked. Well, there was one ensemble, but you couldn’t use the coupon on it! I wasted two hours of my life….
