Sandra Lee’s World’s Largest Bake Sale

Whether I’m creating a new dessert recipe, or begging my mom to make me her famous pound cake, I just can’t get enough of any type of sweets. So when I was selected to attend the World’s Largest Bake Sale at Grand Central Terminal in New York City, I was giddy.

The World’s Largest Bake Sale is an annual event hosted by Food personality Sandra Lee, and is sponsored by Kmart and Shop Your Way. The event calls on all of the best bake shops and restaurants in New York City to provide treats for sale. All proceeds go to The Food Bank of New York City and Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry Campaign. I have been a big supporter of the No Kid Hungry campaign for years, and once I had children of my own, I became an advocate for childhood hunger. The event benefits my favorite city in the world, New York City, so it was an honor to be a part of it and contribute by buying up some goodies.

But, it wasn’t all edible fun at The World’s Largest Bake Sale. Kmart and it’s Partner, Sears, created a pop-up play land for the children attending the event. This is where the Duchess and I got to meet Buddy Valastro, The Cake Boss, and we even got to chat with Ty Pennington from Extreme Home Makeover. As the kids played with Play-doh, Easy Bake Ovens and Furbies, I couldn’t help but that other children their age were worried about where their next meal was coming from at that exact moment. While parents watched their kids frolic, other parents were hoping the food bank would have enough to feed their family this week. That hit me hard. We need to do better. The World’s Largest Bake Sale and Sandra Lee are trying to do just that.
