Highlands Clam Festival in New Jersey

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and their client.

This past weekend, the family and I hit up the annual Clam Festival in Higlands, NJ. I’d never been to this festival even though Highlands is only 20 minutes from our home, so this was very exciting for me. Plus, it was a bevy of food booths, from lobster rolls, to clams casino, and crab nuggets! I wanted to try it all. I was also on another mission: to visit the Mohawk flooring License to Spill booth, learn about Better TV’s Better tour, and get the skinny on Mohawk’s new SmartStrand stain resistant carpet technology.

Here’s a secret for you: I don’t like carpeting. I think it’s such a hassle to take care of, and if you get an unremovable stain on it, you’re doomed to always b-line you eyes to it every time you walk past. My husband, however, loves carpet. He’d have it all over the place if we could. This has been an on-going argument for us since we moved in together. So, when we were asked to visit their booth and learn a bit more about the Mohawk’s Smartstrand technology and their stain resistant carpet, I was all for it and so was my husband.

Mohawk Flooring's License to Spill tour

After talking with Sarah from Mohawk, I learned  that SmartStrand has permanent stain and soil resistance that will never wear off. Most carpets have stain and soil treatments that are applied topically to the fiber. Over time, the topically applied stain and soil treatment wears off. This can leave ordinary carpets looking worn out and dirty sooner than you might expect for such a large purchase. With SmartStrand, you don’t have to worry about that.

Mohawk's new SmartStrand technology for carpet

Mohawk even let my kiddos get in on the action, by having them spray dark liquids on pads of carpet and clean it out themselves! With SmartStrand stain resistant carpet, you don’t need to use harsh chemicals to get rid of stains; with kids and pets running around, I don’t like using any harsh cleaners in our home so this is amazing for us. Even more amazing was seeing HGTV and Food Network’s Taniya Nayak at the Mohawk flooring booth. Taniya is a big fan of Mohawk’s SmartStrand technology (she has it in her own home), and since she’s a fantastic interior decorator, you’d have to pay attention to what she supports.

Fun times with HGTV's Taniya Nayak and Mohawk Flooring

My husband and I were so impressed with the Mohawk team, SmartStrand technology, and of course Taniya! We adopted her to the family officially, and we’re looking into adding a Mohawk carpeting throw rug or two to our home. I’m hoping for a seafoam green rug, but there were so many different colors that I can easily change my mind, if I please.

Now when it came to the rest of the Clam Festival, we had a blast! There was lots of eating, playing and family fun. Our Google+ album has tons of pictures of everything we experienced.

Do you have stain resistant carpet in your home? If not, how to you take care of stains?

I do not have Stain Resistant Carpet in my home, I use Woolite carpet cleaner to help me with my carpet stains. Sounds like a wonderful Festival!!

I visited their booth when they were in Atlanta over the summer. It was nice to see the product demonstration up close. It’s truly amazing how easily the carpet comes clean.

I agree, Angela. Carpet can be a big expense, but if you know that you’re getting quality and something that’s truly stain resistant, it’s well worth the money.

I see so many friends at these License to Spill festivals, and I think they totally need to come to Minneapolis! When I had carpet it was always a PAIN to keep it stain free!

This sounds like a great activity! I’m sure your kids learned a lot about cleaning carpet! And it’s nice to find carpet that’s pretty stain resistant.

I only love my carpeting because there is a waterproof pad underneath it!
