When a show promises to combine crime solving and magic, you have to take notice. During our time on the ABC Studios lot, we were able to interview Creator and Executive Producer Chris Fedak & Co-Producer David Kwong, who also happens to be a magician. Chris and David shared with us what it was like discovering the magic behind Deception, a new ABC series premiering on Sunday, March 11, right after the premiere of American Idol.

The Show Is About A Team

Chris Fedak shared his true passion when it comes to creating amazing shows is the story behind a team. Diving into the team behind Deception is what we’ll experience every week.

“I love shows about teams because they’re shows about family, in a way. I hadn’t seen a show about a group of people putting together deceptions like this, and I thought that could be cool.  The other part of it that I liked is this is Magician Impossible.  What we’re going to be doing every week is essentially an action show with mystery, and deceptions, and all that cool stuff.”

Deception Teaches Us Magic — Without Ruining It

Both Chris and David told us that the amazing opening sequence of the show was all done by lead actor, Jack Cutmore-Scott. What we’ll learn during this show is the amazing work behind the tricks we all fall in love with. But, David assures us, they will never ruin a trick. As a fellow magician, he wants to make sure they respect the magician community, and the audience watching in amazement.

“We’re also very respectful of magicians, so we have to be able to walk a very fine line. You’ll learn a lot about magic, the theories of magic, deception and illusion, but we’re not going to ruin tricks.  But for the most part, we really do give you that behind the scenes perspective.”

Discovering The Magic Behind Deception - New ABC Show

This 13 episode season of Deception will include and mystery woman causing all kinds of trouble, a twin situation that we won’t be able to look away from, brilliant female directors, and lots of magic we’ve never seen before. Both Chris and David hoped that Deception would be a show that families can sit and watch together, after American Idol, and feel entertained. Our family can’t wait to see what tricks Cameron has up his sleeve.
