Have you ever looked at your stockpile and thought “now how the heck am I going to use all of this?!” Because we savvy grocery hounds are able to get many things for free, we may sometimes go overboard with the items we attain. It’s hard to pass up free but once you have it, you have to wonder when you will get to it. Well, this 4 hats mama has come to your rescue! This is the first part of a new series I will be doing for the next few months. “Stockpile double agents” will be the subject and I will hunt down all the uses of those items we tend to go overboard on buying. Today, we will start with something that I thought up about a year ago. I like to call it my “I forgot” box. Take a look-see:
Do you see all of those lovely things? Most of these were freebies from CVS, the grocery stores, or items that were mailed to me after filling out a few online forms. Since I travel once a month down to my military base, I used to always forget one thing or another….lip gloss, deodorant, body wash, toothpaste, etc. This caused me to rush over to CVS after my shift and pay full price for the items that I needed. Also, when we would travel to Ohio and DH would forget his toothbrush or was whining about q-tips(he’s a q-tip junkie), he would run across the street to the CVS by the hotel and spend money on the items he needed PLUS chips, juice, candy and lots of other crap he didn’t initially walk over there for. Such a waste of money! I finally wised up and took an extra tupperware container we had and filled it up. Here’s what I put in ours:
1 box of band-aids
1 bottle hand sanitizer
1 full size tube of toothpaste
3 pairs of rubber gloves
2 packages of gauze
a book of matches
tape(for the gauze)
baby powder(a great dry shampoo)
bath buddies bar soap
3 trial size deodorants
2 trial size body washes
trail size shampoo w/ conditioner
a nail maintenance kit(given to me by my MIL)
one unopened lip gloss
tums quick paks
rat tail comb
one pre-paid phone card(very important)
all of the little trial size items or any small item that may leak I put in their own ziploc bag. I am missing a few things(lotions, small hair brush, face wash, etc.) but as I attain more items, I tend to add them in the box. This box has already helped me quite a few times. Most recently yesterday in the CVS parking lot when sonny boy had his very first bloody boo-boo. The old me would have rushed inside the store, bought a whole bottle of alcohol or peroxide, a whole box of band aids, a whole bag of cotton balls and probably a lollipop to make him feel better. I had everything I needed right in my trunk! Except the lollipop…..I waited until we got home and gave him a yummy Italian ice. I also kissed his band aid covered boo-boo. *Singing* that’s what Moms are for…..
Now, to my lovely readers…..what items do you have lots of but are looking for other ways to use them? My goal is to dedicate a whole week to 2 or 3 items, try out different ways of using them, and reporting back here. I would love some challenges so leave a comment and give it to me, baby!
Upcoming items: KY jelly(thats for you Lisa!), mustard, garnier products, johnson’s bath buddies, baking soda……and many more!
