“Everyone has a spark in them, but it’s up to you to turn that spark into a firework.” – Katy Perry
I recently heard Katy Perry say that quote in reference to her song “Fireworks.” She said it was the reason she decided to write that particular song; she wanted everyone to know that they could be truly influential in the lives of others and their own and be as brilliant as a firework.
It was a simple statement and a simple idea really, but it really stuck with me. I do try to be someone I be proud of and someone that cares about the lives of others, but I do lose it from time to time. Going through life, dealing with ins and outs of daily life, it’s easy to forget what drives you. But as soon as I heard that quote, it lit a fire under me.
With my 29th year of life starting today, and most of my 20s behind me, I want to turn my spark into a firework. I’m so excited about reaching 30; I’ve been excited since I turned 25. Milestone birthdays always seem to bring wonderful things into my life. Instead of having my first drink at 21, I got engaged; during my 25th birthday I streamlined the amount of people I put energy into and found out that I have the best handful of friends I could ever want; and by my 30th birthday, I’ll have a child in first grade, another toddler running around and my long military career will be finally finished. I feel like I need to be ready for this.
So, Katy has become my inspiration. It’s up to me to make a difference and make sure those differences are worthwhile. It’s up to me to be a great daughter, wife, mom, friend and creator of blessings. I can’t wait to see how big of a firework will be created.
Happy Birthday 🙂
