Since Easter just past, It’s hard to wrap my brain around the fact that mother’s day is this coming weekend. Where did the time go? It seems like every year it gets a bit harder to find gifts for the 6 women in our lives, not including me!
Although I stockpile gifts, it still can be difficult to think which one goes with who or if they will even like the gifts. And don’t get me started on cards! We used to be able to go to the stores the day after Mother’s Day and get cards discounted, but it seems as if the stores would rather just take them off the shelves and send them back to the companies than do a discount. I think it also has to do with the fact that Father’s Day is only a few weeks after Mother’s Day, so they need to get those cards up and ready to be purchased.
To offset the costs of Mother’s day gifts and cards, I make sure to use as many store deals as possible. If I have extra register rewards from Walgreens, or Extra care bucks from CVS, they are used to get those cards and any small gifts I may want to add to the gifts. Any gift cards I have saved are also put into use. Because we have to ship 5 of the 6 gifts we put together, I also use these hidden funds to purchase boxes and envelopes. Our out of pocket costs tend to be low, even when having to put together so many gifts.
