Yes, I said boots. It’s beautiful out, the birds are chirping and the weather is ready for your sandals. That could only mean that it’s also time to look for winter boots. Why? Well, this would be the best time to get a deep discount on all of your winter gear.
This is my favorite type of shopping to do in Spring and Summer; I make a list of items we will need for next winter and I go on the hunt. Whether it’s boots, coats, mittens, hats or sweaters, I’m on the prowl. If you are a frequent reader, you know that I have a love of thrift and consignment stores. I especially like to hit them up around Spring, since it’s a guarantee that they will be trying to clearance all of their winter apparel to make room for items that are in season. A clearance rack at a thrift store is basically like finding freebies. Those items will cost next to nothing and they will be (for the most part) in good condition.
I also love to stop at the chain clothing stores. Great stores like Old Navy and even Target, can yield some awesome finds to help you stock up for winter. I make sure to not get distracted by the 30% off racks, and go straight to the 50 and 75% off racks. Some of my favorite winter items, that I still use to this day, were found in those racks. Also, make sure to check these stores out on twitter and Facebook to see if they are offering any type of coupons. Using coupon on top of clearance deals is a great way to stretch those bucks.
When it comes to shoes, I do love my consignment stores, but I have found the most luck with online deals. Because the turn-around for online companies is so quick, they tend to have great clearance finds. What’s even better, those clearance finds have a better chance of being in your size. I don’t know about you, but I loathe going to a store, seeing a clearance shoe I love, and finding out that it’s the only 1 AND isn’t even in my size. Grr. I turn to online clearance deals and I have yet to be disappointed in the winter shoes I find for the family.
For example, I recently was alerted to a great winter boot sale. These boots are very similar to those popular Austrailian “ugly” boots that everyone loves, but no frugalite would spend so much on. I got a pair for 75% off! At 26 bucks, I think there are a great find for something I’ll be using quite a bit in the winter. And hopefully, a few more winters after that. I’ll post a widget for you all to see the deal and cash in on it, so to speak.
So, how about you? Do you shop for winter gear early, or do you wait until the Autumn?
