I’m getting this up VERY late, since we’ve been getting ready for Hurricane Sandy’s arrival. Also, I needed to sleep in. I had an interesting night and it was necessary to sleep it off. Anyway, we did tons yesterday, but the most fun was when we went pumpkin and apple picking for my good friend’s 30th birthday.
We packed up Big Red (the GMC Acadia we’re test driving for the week) and even had room to take our wagon this year. It’s always been a struggle to place large things in our truck, so we welcomed the storage space in Big Red this year. We could have come home with a large bunch of pumpkins and pecks and pecks of apples if we chose too! It’s nice to have the option sometimes.
Our drive through Princeton, NJ was majestic. There was a cloudy overcast all day that threatened to turn to rain, which made this college town look even more beautiful. We spotted a seminary graduation, lots of great stores, and even my dream home.
Terhune Farms was a great activity for a Saturday. They had most of the pumpkins already picked and lined up to make it easier for us, and the apples were plentiful, even this late in the season. There was a live band and a barbecue buffet. There was even a wine tasting of all of their wines from the winery!
My children show their excitement for pumpkins in two very different ways. Can you tell?
The apple picking was my favorite activity of the day. I kept encouraging the kids to pick as many apples as they could, while The Husband kept keeping tabs on how much the bill would be. Obviously I wanted them to keep picking so I could bake like a mad woman for the next couple of weeks. It always comes down to food.
We left exhausted, content, and excited to get home and take a nap. We were supposed to go to my little cousin’s 2nd birthday party, but the time of the party changed and we couldn’t’ get there in time. Since we were so tired, we probably wouldn’t have been any fun anyway. Some weekends you just have to pick our battles.
But that’s a whole other post, preferably a post about Halloween costumes and driving around for an hour trying to find a parking space in Hoboken. Ah, so many stories in one day.
