It’s been exactly 6 months since I chopped all of my hair off.
As liberating as it was to do a big chop of all of my locks, I never thought that I would obsess more over my non-existant hair than I did with my long, relaxed hair. I’ve tried all types of products to encourage the growth and curl pattern of my natural hair, and while some may have worked well, my pocket book couldn’t handle their prices. So far, I’ve stuck with all natural items for my hair health, like olive oil, coconut milk and avocado. Still, I need to add items to my hair care routine that I can find in the store at a great price.
Pantene was always on my radar, especially when I had relaxed hair. I loved it when they came out with a line just for relaxed hair and when there was a sale on Pantene, I stocked up. Now that I have natural hair, I’ve been anticipating a line that was not only the right price, but offered a full variety of the products I’d need to keep my hair healthy. The new Pantene Pro-V Truly Natural line seemed right up my alley, so I was very excited to try it out. I got to try the whole line from clarifying shampoo to argon oil and I was pleasantly surprised with how well my curls respond to the products.
I only needed this small amount of deep conditioner for my whole head of hair. That bottle will last me for at least 6 months at this rate!
The stand out items for me? The deep conditioner, shine serum with argon oil and the defining curls styling custard. When it comes to deep conditioners for natural hair, you always want a product that provides a great “slip”; it helps when you detangle the hair and causes minimal to no snags. I was able to comb through my hair with my fingers, which I’m never able to do. The shine serum and custard have a wonderful smell and helped to enhance my curl pattern. If I had to pick just one to add to my repertoire and budget, I’d go with the custard. I love the consistency of it, it’s price (only 5.99), and it’s the one product I’ve used every day since I’ve received it.
A big thanks to Pantene for creating this line for us natural girls and keeping it affordable.
These are the exact fears I have with my wifey wanting to cut here hair off. She wants to go natural but besides her tendency to cut it a little and regret it I think she will go nuts on the products for her hair. Has it been more upkeep or less or about the same as before you cut your locks off?
Thomas, I have to say it’s been more upkeep than I thought, but it’s not nearly as bad as it was when I had relaxed hair. For some strange reason, I thought that cutting my hair would mean no upkeep at all lol. It’s great to find products that work with your hair, but just like with any woman’s hair, you have to go through a few products in order to find the perfect ones. Don’t be afraid to let her do a big chop! Hair grows back 😉
Pantene smells soooo good. When it’s on sale at CVS and I have coupons to use, it can be a super amazing deal!
It does smell amazing! I can’t wait for the next CVS sale so I can stock up on this.
It’s been 8 months for me and I am having a really hard time with this Summer humidity. I did find another affordable product that’s working well for me and giving the curls some “boing”. 🙂
Thanks for the tip on Pantene. I’ll check it out when this supply of product runs out to compare.
Val, the custard has been doing such a good job of giving me that “boing” factor. Most of the products are great, but that one is my favorite.
It looks like they really revamped their line! I used to use Pantene all the time in high school.
Yes, they really have! It’s great to see that they are investing time and effort into all hair types now.
That’s great that they have expanded their line!
It’s always great to find products you like that are available at decent prices. Good luck with your new look!
I love Pantene products and I think your hair looks great. So happy you found something that works for you!
