Today, my little girl turns 3.
It feels very surreal that just three short years ago, I announced her birth on this blog. But once I think about it, it’s very real and she’s definitely three going on Sass. I love my little Duchess and all of the life in her. She’s loud, silly, amazing and mine.
As we see her turn another year older, I tend to wonder of where all of her traits come from. The older she gets, the more I see that she’s the farthest thing from me. She has no problem standing up for herself, and will take on the role of leader with such exuberance. She enjoys throwing monkey wrenches into routine, especially since she knows that her brother is such a stickler for it. Yes, we’ve reached that stage of little sister-dom and she’s doing quite well with her new power.
She’s all that I wanted in a daughter. Strong yet dainty, intelligent and charismatic, a daily reminder that life can be overly bright and brilliant. It all comes from this little person that you’ve only known for so long. It’s a real blessing to have your first born be just like you, and your next born be the you you’ve always dreamed you could be.
Each day she shows me something new, and pushes me out of my comfort zone. She talks to strangers (and makes them have conversations with her), she sings loudly in public, and gives the biggest toddler hugs you can ever imagine. She says “I love you” many times a day, out loud.
She’s a goofball. She’s dramatic. She spins in circles just to get dizzy and fall. She’s everyone’s protector, even her big brother. She’s an uber fashionista and loves to view, create, find and appreciate beautiful things. She brazen. She’s bold. She’s the female version of her Father in more ways than one.
As I leave my little girl today to head off to BlogHer in Chicago, I can’t help but miss her already. Although I have to go on her big day, I know the biggest gift I can give her is to bring her light with me. Smile wide. Talk to strangers. Live the lessons she’s taught me for the past 3 years.
