Disclosure: This is a sponsored post on behalf of Zicam, although all tips and experiences listed are my own.
Who has time to get sick this holiday season? Not I, said the blogger! Between making holiday cookies, creating new recipes and crafts for the blog, and running my run to track practices and meets, I have no time for laying in bed with a cold. Each year, I take extra precautions and overdose on vitamin C, but I still end up needing some type of extra help when I do get that one cold that wrecks our schedule.
There are only a few things that we keep stockpiled in our home, and Zicam is on that short list. It works fast and doesn’t leave me feeling lethargic and useless to mankind. My new favorite love are the Zicam® RapidMelts, since I can take them on the go, as soon as I feel that pre-cold hit. What’s a Pre-Cold®. Check it out on Zicam’s website.
Here are a few other things that I do when I know I don’t have time to get sick:
- Drink hot water with honey and lemon. If you want a little more flavor, grab a bag of green tea and add it to the mix.
- Have orange slices for breakfast with said drink mixture from above.
- Clean all the doorknobs and remotes in our home. Germs love to lurk on both of these items, especially in the winter.
- Exercise. It boosts your immune system, and if you are feeling tired, it will give you some extra energy for the day.
- Clean out our car. If your family is like mine, you spend a ton of time in the car. Germs can stay stagnant in that small metal box for a long time. Clean it up and let in some fresh air when driving from time to time.
- Eat! I find that if I have a hearty meal, especially during lunch, I get over colds quickly and easily.
- Sleep. Get 8 to 9 hours when you feel like you may be getting sick.
By taking these steps, you can continue to seize the day, and get holiday stuff done. To help you in your quest, Zicam is going to have a twitter party! I think I have been fighting off a cold for a while now–at this very second I have a headache-which I usually only get when I have a cold brewing!! Better get to CVS tomorrow and try the Rapidmelts!!
I’m all about the Neti pot. I think everyone should own one. I haven’t tried Zicam yet, I’ll have to make a preemptive strike and put it on my shopping list!
Oh my gosh… I/m just getting over being SO sick. My cold was miserable and actually ended up giving me pink eye. I’m going to run around cleaning doornobs with clorox wipes now!
I have never had Zicam before. I may have to keep that in mind with the time arises *knocks on wood*
this time of the year is always tough in my household. with my son going to kindergarten I’m always worried he will come home with a bad cold and within days I would also have it.
I can’t remember ever using Zicam, but I would like to give it a try.
I think I’ve seen commercials for this, but never really paid attention. I am just getting over a heck of a cold and I would definitley like to try this the next time I feel one coming on.
I use saline spray on my kids every night during the winter months, it helps to keep them cleaned out of any mucus. I’m also an obsessive Clorox wiper during this time of year, keeping germs away – but never really thought about the car, but it makes sense – especially the steering wheel and door handles!
I rarely get colds but they make me miserable when I do. I will have to try Zicam the next time
I didnt know there was a precold Zicam. Thanks for the review!
I’ve heard so many great things from people that have used Zicam. I use a Neti-Pot too. I image the combination of that and Zicam would be great defense against a cold.
i’ve used a neti pot but due to lack of “trusted” water here in India, I’d go with some zicam!
I am sharing in my Free For All page to hope you get more RSVPS I cant wait
Thank you so much JoBeth!
I’ve never used Zicam, but I’ve heard a lot about it! I hope this year we can slide by the cold machines out in the world and keep my family healthy.. But if we get sick, I’ll look into some Zicam!
Great tip to clean and disinfect the car! I never think of this even though I’m a germophobe everywhere else. In addition to doorknobs and remote controls, I also make sure I clean light switches, telephones, and the fridge door handle.
I have not heard of Zicam before, I don’t think they sell it here. So important to get a good night sleep when you are sick.
I have used this in the past and loved it. This reminds me to go ahead and grab it to have on hand – just in case.

I have used Zicam and I will be honest. It did nothing for me. I agree with your tips to keep the germs away.
I love your tips and I have also used Zicam – I am not sure if it helped but it certainly did not hurt.
I have never used Zicam before but then again I don’t really take much medication. Being military anyway we’re usually given something by my PA so have no need to buy anything. Great tips though.
I actually have a box of Zicam on my night table as we speak. I am waiting until the first hint of a cold this winter to take it. Hopefully it will relieve my symptoms faster.
I know so many people that swear by Zicam that I really need to try it. Your tips are a great reminder on how to take care of yourself in this flu season. Sorry I missed the Twitter party. Sounded like a lot of fun.
I’ve never tried Zicam before but it looks great!
I love Zicam. We do the nasal swabs anytime one of the family members start showing symptoms of a cold. Great list of ideas for keeping healthy, never thought of the car, great tip.
I’ve never taken Zicam and I’ve never heard of taking it pre-cold, so this is great information for me. Looks like I’ll be picking up some Zicam!
I am definitely going to get the Rapid Melts. I didn’t know they had anything outside of the powder. I want those in my purse NOW!
I think I’m getting a cold right now!
