If you look in our fridge or freezer at any given time, you’ll find ground beef. We use it for our weekly spaghetti nights, my homemade hamburger helper recipe, or my husband’s personal favorite, hamburger steak.

Hamburger Steak Without Gravy – Easiest Dinner

This is a very easy recipe. I mean, I have no idea why I’m even posting it, since it’s so simple. But, I went through the trouble of taking lovely pictures of this quaint little meal, so why not share it with you?

The ingredients. They seem so simple, don’t they? Well, they are. I’ve figured out this particular cast of characters provide a great boost to plain ground beef.

The cayenne plays off of the Worcestershire, and the seasoned salt does something that regular table or kosher salt couldn’t do. These are magical ingredients.

After you combine the ground beef with the dream team ingredients, place them in a cast iron skillet on medium heat. Just brown them on each side, then place on a plate. You’ll add them back to the skillet a bit later.

Look at that skillet. This would be a perfect place to put some sliced onions and peppers. So, that’s just what we’ll do.

Don’t be fooled by the smoke coming from my vegetables. It’s actually steam. When we find onions and peppers on sale or clearance at our grocery store, I buy them up, slice them, then freeze them.

This bunch was frozen in a quart size bag a few weeks before. It turns out to be way cheaper than those peppers and onions frozen vegetable bags in the freezer section.

After the vegetables cook for a bit, and the onions are almost translucent, place each hamburger steak within the vegetables and cover.

The steam from the veggies will help to cook the steaks to medium well or well done. We’re a medium well family, but the best part of this recipe is that however you like your steaks, it will still taste heavenly.

Hamburger Steak Recipe No Gravy

Serves 4 to 6

Ingredients
1 pound ground beef (80 to 85% lean)
1 small onion, sliced
2 green, red and/or yellow peppers, sliced
2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon seasoned salt, divided
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions
In a medium bowl, mix together ground beef, worcestershire sauce, 1/2 tablespoon seasoned salt, black pepper and cayenne pepper. The best way to incorporate the seasonings is to use your hands.
Shape ground beef into 4 to 6 oval patties and set aside. Place a large cast iron skillet on medium heat. Once hot, place the patties in the pan and let them brown on each side for 3 to 5 minutes. Once seared, place on a plate and set aside.
Still on medium heat, placed sliced vegetables in the cast iron skillet. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt over the vegetables and toss slightly. Continue to cook on medium heat until onions are translucent, tossing occasionally.
Once the vegetables are almost cooked, nestle each hamburger steak within the vegetables. Cover and turn heat down to low. Let steaks cook for 7 to 10 minutes, or until medium well to well done.

Ha! Well, those would work as well. It would be very easy to turn the peppers and onions into a gravy.
