I’m so excited to officially start posting interviews of the cast of Avengers: Age of Ultron! During the press trip with Disney motion pictures a few weeks ago, our interview day with the cast was one of the most fast-paced and fun experiences I’ve ever had as an online influencer. This 20 minute interview with Chris Evans aka Captain America and Chris Hemsworth aka Thor was one of the funniest of the day. The friendship that they share (and their devastatingly good looks) was fun to witness within our short time.

The two Avengers started off the interview by announcing who was Chris 1 and Chris 2. Seeing each Chris point to themselves when referencing “Chris 1” gave us an idea of how the rest of the conversation would be.

The interview session starts out with each Chris announcing their favorite fight scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Chris Evans chose the Hulk and HulkBuster scene (my personal favorite), while Chris Hemsworth spoke fondly about the first fight scene of the movie:

“…What looked cool was the kind of tie-in shot between all of us. And at the very beginning of the film where it cuts from each of our individual fight. And it looks like it’s one big tracking shot. That blew my mind as to how they even did that.”

When asked if they discover something new about their characters each time they put on the costume, Chris Evans had a great reply:

“You know the character, but you hope there’s always new challenges. You hope as an actor there’s always a new hurdle to jump in, a new arch to kind of discover.  The first couple of movies you try to read as many comic books as possible to make sure the fan base is going to be satisfied with what you bring to the screen. But then in terms of where the character is going, that’s up to the director, the writer and Joss. That’s what makes these exciting to come back to.  If it weren’t new, it would get old, stagnant and the audience would feel it.”

A question was shared from a 10 year old boy who had been bullied about his long hair. He wanted to know if “Thor” thought it was OK for a boy to have long hair. Chris Hemsworth’s answer:

“Of course it is. Absolutely. My dad had long hair for years. In fact, was asked to play for a football team, and invited down to a big league in Australian football. It was quite a big opportunity. And the coach said, yeah, cool but you’ve got to cut your hair because he had a ponytail. He said no and walked away. And gave up that dream and did something else, honestly. That really kind of impressed me…If anyone is narrow-minded and limited in their thinking to think that is an issue, then they’ve got the problem. And you wait. In a few years’ time, that kid will understand that that other kid(the bully) has larger problems, you know?”

Chris Evans also shared this when asked if playing Captain America has changed him in any way:

“Any actor will tell you if you have to live in any headspace for an extended period of time, you’re going to take some of it home with you. You hope that some of the character comes home with you. You hope to see more of Steve Rogers in who you are on a day-to-day basis. “

Chris Hemsworth then mentions that you probably won’t want to become our character if you’re playing Hannibal Lecter. True that. They also went into this hilarious banter about eating people only once, and a mention of The Philippines. I can’t make this stuff up. Chris squared was a trip!

Then, TerriAnn from Cookies and Clogs asked the question that got the best reaction throughout the whole interview.

TerriAnn: (to Chris Hemsworth) Do you ever go into God-speak every so often?

Chris Hemsworth: “Just when things need to get done.  No.  Just when the lights go off, yeah.  Honey.”

Christ Evans: “Best answer ever.  There’s no answer that is going to be better than that one ever.  I was going to make a horrible joke about like putting the cap back on the toothpaste.  That is so much better.  Oh man, I’m not Thor.  There it is.  That’s the best answer of the day.”

Chris Hemsworth: “Honey, let’s bring the thunder. Too far? Too far?”

Needless to say, the room broke out into laughter after that one. Chris and Chris are too much.

More quick-fire answers:

What was your favorite superhero growing up?

Chris E – Spiderman

Chris H – Superman

Do you guys hang out after the movie?

Chris E – Oh yeah.

Chris H – (Laughing) We try not to. We try to save it for the screen.

Chris E  – Outside of filming, we all hang out. We all cause trouble.

Random, yet awesome, quotes from Chris Evans:

“Would anyone here not want to be a ninja turtle?  Great calves.”

“To be honest, I’d love to play like an Ironman. You know, Steve Rogers is such an internal guy.  I just want to make some jokes.  Can I just make some jokes?”

“Don’t work with Chris Evans.”

“When the lights go down, that was hilarious.  Best line of the day.  (To Chris Hemsworth) Can you imagine doing comedy?”

Avengers: Age of Ultron opens in theaters on May 1.

This is great! I love seeing that they are such great people aside from their superhero alter egos. I may have spent a little too much time swooning over those pictures. I’m not sure how any of you managed to ask questions! 😉
