Thanks to my family’s obsession with pizza, and our vow to make our own, I’ve found an easy pizza sauce recipe! Bonus: its a pizza sauce from tomato paste, and doesn’t require cooking.
Friday night is pizza night around here. It will be until my kids (and husband) grow out of the habit. We strive to make as many homemade meals as we can to save money, and we tend to make our pizzas on pizza night as well.
When we lived in NJ, there were quite a few pizza joints we love to order from, but now we’re in the MidWest. The pizza selections here leave something to be desired, but I’m a jersey girl, so I’ll always be snobby about pizza.
I admit to my snobbiness, which means I need to make my own pizza to make up for how picky I am. Making your own pizza is so fun, and can’t be beat. You also can’t beat making an easy pizza sauce recipe, especially one that saves time and money.
Do you make your own pizza at home? If so, let us know what weeknight you do pizza night. Friday seems to be the consensus, but I’d love to know if you have it on a different weekday.
Summer is a great time to start making your own pizzas, since you can make some delectable ones right on the grill. I love to make a few batches of pizza dough, freeze, then thaw the night before pizza night, or when we plan to grill. A grilled pizza is a fun way to keep our Friday tradition going through the warmer months.
If I need a quick snack for the kids, I also make them pizza English muffins. I toast the muffins, spread on the sauce, top with shredded cheese, then microwave for about 30 seconds.
A good pizza needs a good pizza sauce. Below, I’m showing you how to make this easy pizza sauce recipe that we’ve used for years, and is made from canned tomato paste!
Easy Pizza Sauce (From Tomato Paste)
Ingredients:
1 can of tomato paste (6 ounces)
1 cup warm water
1/3 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Instructions:
In a large bowl, whisk together all ingredients until fully incorporated, about 2 to 3 minutes. Place in a glass container, and let sit for at least 2 hours to overnight before first use.
Once ready to use, stir gently, then spread over pizza dough.
