Kids are all about technology these days. Who can blame them? They see the adults in their lives doing just about everything from their phone and tablets. From apps, to video games, to interactive gaming systems, kids have lots to choose from when it comes to digital entertainment.
I was able to preview Playmation, the new interactive gaming system from Disney, and I immediately knew that this would be the hot new toy for the upcoming holiday season. I also knew that this would be our family’s new favorite way to have a blast together.
Playmation
Playmation is based on a child playing physically with digital supplements to add to the fun. It’s the next evolution of digital AND physical play. Yes, it’s a toy that focuses on jumping, running, hiding, and battling the bad guy. The system can even be played outside! The premise is to give kids a platform to encourage their physical play, while also utilizing the Playmation mobile app as your hub. It also show your progress and the next part of your journey.
Disney commissioned a third party study of 2,000 families across the country, and it showed that while almost all parents believe in the power of active and creative play, they believe technology is also an important part of growing up today. I’m definitely one of those parents.
During the demonstration, we watched the system encourage the user to hide behind doors, activate bombs, use her Repulsor Gear to attack the bad guys, and even free prisoners. J.A.R.V.I.S. was her guide during the missions, and prompted her to do all of the physical activities listed above. In order to continue the mission, kids have to MOVE. So cool!
Playmation Starter Pack
The Playmation Marvel’s Avengers Starter Pack is now available for pre-order and will be released on October 4th, 2015. The Star Wars Starter Pack (whoo hoo!) will be released in 2016, and the Disney Frozen Starter Pack (double Whoo Hoo!) will be released in 2017.
This 119 dollar Starter Pack will include one Repulsor Gear (pictured above), two Power Activators, and two Smart Figures which includes a Super Hero and a Villain (Captain America and Iron Skull). If you have more than one kiddo in your home, like we do, you can by additional items so the kids can play together. I know we’ll need a few sets of Repulsor Gear, since mom and dad will want to play too!
