Mickey Milestones

Sharing is caring!

Jasmine and Aladdin

Every family has traditions. Every member of a family has milestones that they accomplish. When it comes to our family, there are things that we experience during every single Walt Disney World vacation that tend to become milestones for us. They don’t have to be big, but they are important. People constantly ask why we continue to go back to Walt Disney World. This is one of the reasons. We call them Mickey Milestones.

This past Mother’s Day weekend, we were invited to attend the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. I knew we’d experience our own family milestones, since the Disney Parks team always plans pixie dusted adventures for everyone in attendance. But this time was extra special, since our oldest was double digits (you’ll see why this is important later), our girl was a bit taller than she was last year, and our baby wasn’t as much of baby anymore. Mom and Dad even had a few Mickey Milestones this time around. What did we accomplish? Check it out:

Rock N Roller Coaster Brandon

Brandon’s Mickey Milestones

Rode Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster for the first time
Ate adult meals during our dinners out (he’s 10 now!)
Answered all the trivia questions correctly at Star Wars Launch Bay
Rode The Barnstormer by himself
Stood up on Disney Bus Transportation, like Dad (we usually make him sit down)

Alannah Turkey leg

Alannah’s Mickey Milestones

Rode Expedition Everest for the first time (this was a BIG deal!)
Ate her first turkey leg
Decided she DIDN’T want to meet the Disney Princesses during our Mother’s Day breakfast (say what?!)
Was allowed to go to the restrooms by herself, if they were in Mom and Dad’s eyesight
Spent most of the time walking the parks, instead of riding in the stroller
Rode Big Thunder Mountain Railroad twice IN A ROW!
Openly teased her brother for being scared of riding Twilight Zone: Tower of Terror

Baby James’s Mickey Milestones

Watched Disney Junior LIVE for the first time (and freaked out)
Share his first Mickey Ice Cream Bar with Mama
Danced during every parade and show
Learned to say “don’t,” “let’s go,” “hi” and “yay!” (but he still refuses to say Mama)
Preceded to tell Chewbacca “let’s go” when we visited him at Star Wars Launch Bay
Became a hugger (almost everyone got a hug during this trip, even if they didn’t want it)
Rode Peter Pan’s Flight and LOVED IT
Colored…for real…with crayons
Stayed up long enough to watch every fireworks show

Disney Moms of Color

Mom’s Mickey Milestones

Had a deep conversation with her favorite Disney Princess
Rode Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster with her first born
Missed a Star Wars trivia question at Star Wars Launch Bay (ridiculous!)
Met her Disney Moms of Color pals in real life (favorite milestone)
Didn’t plan every single part of the vacation (the family’s favorite milestone. Ha!)

Dad’s Mickey Milestones

Rode Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster for the first time ever
Had his first turkey leg within a Disney Park
Rode Mad Tea Party for the first time (he’s always sat that one out)
Got 20 people to sing “If You’re Happy (and you know it)” while in the queue for Festival of The Lion King

Spirit of Aloha

Family Mickey Milestones

Attended Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show for the first time
Watched Wishes nighttime spectacular from Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
Met our favorite Wookie
Annoyingly sang every song during Symphony In The Stars: A Galactic Spectacular
Stayed in a Family Suite at Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort for the first time
Didn’t experience any meltdowns, not even Mom
Had an amazing time at Walt Disney World without having to plan every minute

Whew! That’s one long list of Mickey Milestones. I’m sure I’m forgetting something, but the best part is that we’ll remember it a few months down the road. Those conversations are the best.

“Hey Mom Remember when we did so-and-so at Disney World? That was so fun!”

Rock N Roller Coaster

This is why we call Walt Disney World home. We feel so comfortable when we are there, so we open ourselves to experiencing new, or new-to-us, adventures. From turkey legs to Aerosmith, there’s always something we are discovering for the first time, or for the first time as a family.

Thank you, Disney Parks Public Relations Team, for inviting our family to Disney Social Media Moms Celebration, and allowing us to add another adventure to our magical memories. Unforgettable definitely happens at Walt Disney World.

Our family was invited to attend Disney Social Media Moms at an extremely reduced lodging rate. All experiences and milestones are our own.

I love this so much. And it makes me even more disappointed I couldn’t make Disney social media moms work. Someday…

I love this post, it’s like a journal and memory keeper for each member of your family and truly encapsulates their individual experiences on what looks like a truly bucket list adventure.
