I had the privilege of seeing a sneak peek of LEGO Star Wars The Freemaker Adventures last week. As a big Star Wars fan, this was such a mind-blowing part of our Disney media junket. Executive Producers Bob Roth and Bill Motz answered a few of our questions during a Q&A session, and there were some fun facts that they shared with us about this new series that premieres Monday, June 20th at 10amEST.
Freemaker Adventures Was A Year Long Secret
Bill and Bob admitted that they weren’t able to talk about the show for over 12 months. As Star Wars and LEGO fans, that was a hard task for them.
The Show Was Inspired By “Busted Junk”
Bill Motz shared with us that the thought of all of the space debris after epic Star Wars battles, inspired the creation of the show. The Freemaker family are scavengers, so the busted junk will be a big theme throughout the series.
Fear Almost Kept Them From Making The Show
Bill and Bob admitted that once they had the green light for the show, fear almost made them give up the opportunity. While they wanted to give in, they got over the fear by getting to work. Bill said “it’s like being shot out of a cannon.”
Bob Roth Wanted To Be Part of Star Wars Since Age 7
Bob’s older brother decided to take him to see Star Wars when Bob was just 7 years old. It changed his life forever, and you can see his passion for the franchise within the show.
“I walked in there, 7 years old, not knowing what I wanted to do with my life. What 7 year old does, right? But I walked out of there going, ‘oh I totally know what I want to do with my life. I want to give other kids the viewing I had right now.’ “
They (Sometimes) Act Out Scenes With Animators Via Skype
The animation team for LEGO Star Wars The Freemaker Adventures is based n Denmark, so Bob and Bill sometimes have to hop on a call with them to act out scenes. They do admit that they don’t like to do it often, since they have great actors (like Nicolas Cantu, Vanessa Lengies, and Eugene Byrd) to master the lines for them.
Bob said, “We prefer (to have) really good actors breathe the life into what we do.”
Even In the Dark Episodes, You’ll Have Fun
Both Bob and Bill are adamant about viewers having a good time watching every single episode, even during some dark twists and turns that we’ll experience.
Tune into LEGO Star Wars The Freemaker Adventures this Monday, June 20th at 10amEST. THEN, watch every morning that week for an all new episode at 10amEST! Yes, a new episode every morning!
