Have you ever been so obsessed with something that you felt you needed to tell the whole world? Have you ever had that happen at least once a month? Yeah, me too.
We’re starting a new series here on 4 Hats and Frugal called The Best Things EVER (this month). At the beginning of each month, I’ll share a few things that rocked my world over weeks past. It’s weird, it’s fun, it’s me in a nutshell.
Help! I’m in a nutshell! How did I get in this nutshell? (name that movie…)
Let’s get to the awesome, shall we?
Slip-On Shoes
Listen. I’m a mom of 3, and short of time. That includes time to put on pretty shoes. Cross that. Time to put on pretty shoes THAT ARE COMFORTABLE, in 5 seconds flat. So, my new shoe obsession are slip-on shoes. If they are gaudy in any way, that’s a bonus. I think I may have passed this onto my daughter, who requested “glittery sneakers” as a birthday gift this year. Lately, I’ve found a few great slip-on shoes on JustFab. But, my real slip-on shoe of choice are Vans. Vans makes me happy.
Furiously Happy on Audible
Jenny Lawson just gets me. I met her once, backstage of an awards ceremony (yes, super random). She saw the anxiety all in my face, and told me “come sit by me.” We sat in silence for 20 minutes, then talked about Star Wars and Doctor Who. It was magical. Her books are magical as well, full of awkwardly awesome comedic life stories. Her latest book, Furiously Happy, gives us exactly that. BUT. You MUST read it, then listen to it on audible. I’ve read the book twice, and have listened to the audible version twice. If you want to snort-laugh, the audio version will be your catalyst. Jenny’s inflections during certain stories are almost too much. Even my husband cracked up while eavesdropping on my time with Jenny during dinner prep. There’s some colorful language within the book, but so what. It rocks.
Ghostbusters
Have you seen the new Ghostbusters yet? YOU HAVEN’T?! WHY?! I’m not sure that I can wax poetic about how awesome this movie was without giving away something. As a woman, I was so impressed with this film. It was very smart women saving the day, without having to dress scantily, dumb down themselves for a man, or feel the need to be brave FOR someone else. They were brave because they needed to be. They were funny because, yes, women are funny. They were smart because that’s what scientists are. I was hesitant to take my daughter to see it (it was a bit scary of course, and there was some language), but I’m so glad I did. It was great to have her witness the amazingness of this film. Plus, we had fun watching it together. Fun movies are always a good thing. I can’t wait to see it again.
