It’s been about a year since we’ve moved to Columbus, Ohio, and we’ve been lacking at exploring our city. Mostly because of time, also because we don’t know where to start first. With 3 kids, being a work-from-home family, and realizing how amazing our new city is, we’ve been a bit paralyzed when it comes to finding cool places to enjoy. But, it doesn’t have to be complicated! Here are the simple tips you can use when you want to learn how explore your own city.
Keep It Seasonal
While your city may be filled with amazing things to do, most cities love to focus on seasonally themed activities and areas. Fall is fun in Columbus, because of all of the foliage, farmers markets, and free activities for families. Um, shout out to all of the alliteration in that last sentence. Anyway, think of seasonal things you can do in your area. Can you visit the nearby pumpkin patch in the fall? Pick-your-own Christmas tree fun around the holidays? Sled down the best hills in the winter? Get excited about all the seasonal activities, and take them on.
Make a Bucket List
Lists are kind of my jam, so creating a simple list of things we should explore as a family is a welcomed activity. If lists aren’t your thing, you can always make a small one, or do a quick google search for “Top 5 things to do in (insert your city here).” Create a bucket list of items that you and your family MUST do in your new city. Be sure to share it with the rest of the family, so everyone will be motivated, and excited, to explore every item on the list.
Prep For A Day Out
The whole point of exploring your new city is to get out of your house, and see everything this new space has to offer. That means you’ll have to do a little prep. No need to pack big lunches and lots of toys or activities. Your new city will guide you to those things! But, I do suggest planning for snacks. One of best things we’ve done is ordered our snacks on the go, and picked them up as we explored our city.
CVS Curbside Pickup has saved us time and time again when we knew we needed a few snacks on our trip around the city. We ordered through the CVS app, picked the CVS closest to our activity for the day, selected our favorite Gold Emblem Abound snacks, and went on our merry way. I even love the special CVS Curbside Pickup parking spots. We pull up, they deliver. It’s genius!
Enjoying time together while we explore our new city has been the biggest takeaway. Being able to keep this experience fun, and simple, has guided us to really love our new area.
