A black fabric tent over a purple carpet. Beautiful, brown skinned fabulousness everywhere. Royalty all around. This was the scene at the Black Panther Red Carpet.
On Monday, January 29th, I had the immense pleasure of attending the Black Panther red carpet and premiere at the famous Dolby Theater (home of the Academy Awards). We walked the purple carpet, and took in the electric energy we felt from everyone in attendance. During that warm night in L.A., it almost felt like we were experiencing Sub-Saharan Wakanda for ourselves; it was HOT, ya’ll.
No matter the temperature, everyone brought their “A” game with their outfits and enthusiasm. I felt like an African princess on the carpet, in a sparkly rose gold dress and rose gold heels. Rose gold EVERYTHING!
We saw some of our favorite celebrities on the carpet, and even more within the theater. The bad news is we weren’t able to use our cell phones within the theater! We chatted with Sterling K Brown of This is Us fame (who also has a role in Black Panther), Jamie Foxx, Elizabeth Banks, Yara Shahidi, Martin Lawrence, and George Lucas (!!!).
As Angela Bassett walked past us before the screening, I was able to tell her how beautiful she was in her yellow fringe outfit. I TOLD ANGELA BASSETT SHE WAS BEAUTIFUL. I’m trying not to pass out as I type that. After the film, we had the pleasure of having Chadwick Boseman, Letitia Wright, and Daniel Kaluuya walk past us, and Daniel even hung out with us for a few minutes.
While none of those interactions were captured with a camera, I did get to take a selfie with Storm Reid, the star of the upcoming A Wrinkle In Time film. She was so sweet! I even mentioned to her that I’ll be attending the A Wrinkle In Time event at the end of February, I can’t wait to interview her and the rest of the cast.
Next week, I’ll share my full, no spoiler review of Black Panther, so be sure come bookmark our site so you can read our post as soon as it goes live!
