When you’re on a tight budget, with 3 kids, and you aren’t enjoying that “live-in nanny” life yet, you have to get creative with date night. When I sat down many years ago, trying to figure out how to plan a date night in that wouldn’t bore my husband and me, I came up with to must-do’s for each date night at home. Here’s how to plan a date night in, save money, and actually enjoy yourself.
Binge Watch (Or Listen)
Whoever thought up the phrase “binge-watching,” is a genius. Binge-watching, or batch watching, is a genius. Bing watching shows, and binge listening to podcasts are two of our favorite things to do as couple. We get the kids fed, bathed, and then relax on the couch as we enjoy multiple episodes.
Choose a one hour show to binge, and schedule when you will sit down to watch or listen to at least 3 episodes. 3 episodes is the usual length of a date night out, so you’ll feel like you’re utilizing the same amount of quality time, without leaving your home.
Dress Up
When you go out on a date with your spouse, do you wear yoga pants and your favorite t-shirt with the holes in the bottom? YOU DO?! Oh heck no. Dressing up for a date is so important, even when you’re having a date night in. Wear something that your spouse has complimented you on in the past. It will bring the mood up for your date, and remind both of you that even though you can’t leave the house, this time together deserves the proper outfit.
Make Your Meals
Listen. I know the best part of a date night out is that someone else makes your meals, but you save so much money if you . You can hack this little task by purchasing easy to make .
We like Tai Pei because , we can get different entrees to share, and it’s real ingredients with no artificial flavors or preservatives. Within 5 minutes, you’ll have a gourmet meal, ready for your date night in. I always place our meals on beautiful china, and use our “special occasion” chopsticks.
Loved the binge watching something tip. We always tend to get behind on shows we watch together if one of us gets to busy. This would be perfect to help us catch up while we spend that time together. Oh, and I meal made in 20 min or less is always clutch. I’ll have to check this out for more than just date night :)!
Yay! I hope you two get a few fun date nights in this summer!
Love their beef and broccoli. I will have to try out the General Tso’s. You can really taste difference compared with other brands that make Asian foods but use artificial ingredients and preservatives. Never going back to any of those again after switching to Tai Pei!
Yes! We’ve been so impressed with everything in their line. We even had potstickers as a side dish on this date night in, and they were perfectly cooked.
