Bronte Carmichael plays the wonderful Madeline Robin in the new live-action film, Christopher Robin. We had the pleasure to chat with this 11 year old little star during the Christopher Robin press day, and she shared her experience on set, what she had to do to prep for her role in her first Disney film, and what it was like to have her mom on set, and in the film with her!
Bronte Is A Stuffed Animal Fan
When asked it she had special blanket, stuffed animal or “lovie” at home, similar to how 99% of kids have a Winnie The Pooh in their bed, Bronte admits that she has a stuffed animal collection.
“I have lots and lots of stuffed animals at home. So, I don’t really have like a favorite teddy at home, but I have lots and lots. And I like to talk to them and play with them with my sister, as well.”
How Bronte Got Into Acting – Advice For Other Kid Actors
Bronte comes from an acting family — both her mom and dad are actors — but she wasn’t pushed into an acting career. It all happened pretty naturally.
“Everything kind of randomly fell into place. My parents’ friend, who’s a director, asked me to be in something. Once I’d done my first film, I found I really enjoyed it.”
When asked what advice she’d give other kids who are looking to become actors, she says to let it flow.
“Be as natural as you can, and don’t things get in the way. Just let it flow, and be there in the moment when you’re filming.”
When Mom Is On Set…And In The Movie
One of the most interesting things we learned was that Bronte’s mom and dad, are also in Christopher Robin. They play young Christopher Robin’s parents in the beginning of the film! We wanted to know how fun it was to have her parents on set for her scenes, and to know that her parents had their own scenes to film.
“It was quite funny, actually. I knew the boy who played young Christopher Robin, and sometimes we drove back to the hotel together. We’d always have these weird conversations about my mum’s playing my grandma, and then my dad’s playing my grandpa.”
The Importance of Play
Play is one of the main themes of Christopher Robin — why everyone needs it in their life from time to time, what happens when you forget to play, and how to find your way back to it. We wanted to know Bronte’s favorite way to play.
“Well, I play a lot with my sister, and I like fun, action games. I like making up games, using things that I already have, turning them into stuff, and exaggerating and turning that into something else.”
Piglet Is Her Pal
While it’s very difficult to pick your favorite resident of the 100 Acre Woods, Bronte admits she does have an affinity for Piglet and Tigger. We asked her why she felt a connection with those two.
“Sometimes, I can be nervous about some things, especially with acting, there are certain things that can scare you. They can be certain takes that you aren’t that confident on, you can feel like Piglet sometimes. And then when you’re with Tigger, you can be really excited about something. I was definitely excited about coming to Disneyland. While I was in LA, I felt like Tigger.”
Isn’t she so fun? She does a phenomenal job as Madeline in Christopher Robin, and it was a pleasure to talk with her.
