The day is finally here! A few months ago, I hinted at the fact that I was able to spend some on set Captain Marvel time during the Infinity War Event. Well, today I can finally share everything I saw and did on set!
Thank you, Disney, for inviting me to the Infinity War Event and allowing me to have a BLAST with some really cool bloggers and celebrities.
Joking with Samuel L. Jackson
Let’s start off with my favorite part of our whole experience — Samuel L. Jackson. I should preface this to say that anytime Tania from Lola Lambchops and I are together for an event, it’s going to be hilarious. This time was no different.
We were given the chance to watch Brie Larson, THE Captain Marvel, and Samuel L. Jackson. THE Nick Fury, film a scene on the “Quadjet” together. With Goose the cat at their side, we all watched them do a few takes of a scene you’ve seen briefly in the first trailer.
Before they filmed, with Tania and I lagging behind the group as we walked the small set during a break, we spotted him. Samuel L. Jackson, lounging in a seat. He spotted our group, got up to say hello, and guess who was right at the beginning of those greetings? You guessed it: me and my girl, Tania!
As he walked over to film his scenes, Tania yells…
I love you, Mr. Jackson!
I cackled. This should have been embarrassing for Tania, but nope. This is her life story. Remind to tell you about the time she yelled at Donald Glover during the premiere of SOLO: A Star Wars Story.
Here’s the kicker: Samuel L. spotted her, smirked AND WINKED AT HER. He loved the shout-out, and even talked to Tania briefly during another part of our set visit. My friends are almost too much, you guys.
We even shared the story on an episode of The Geekly Show. This story needs to be told at least a thousand times. It’s that good.
Photos with Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson
Even our group photo with these 2 superstars (3, including Goose the cat) has a story. While Goose the cat (formerly Chewie the cat in the Captain Marvel comics), is Carol Danvers’ sidekick, Brie is highly allergic to cats. If you look at the photo, you see Brie is far away from Goose.
Another fun Goose the cat fact: there were 3 cats that played the role during filming. We actually heard some meowing near us when we were watching the filming of a scene, and and cat handler told us that there were 3 cats involved in this one role. Pretty cool!
Shooting Blasters
That’s not all the fun we had on set of Captain Marvel. We were able to spend time with Property Master Drew Petrotta, and he showed us some of the weapons used in Captain Marvel. We had some fun photos taken of us looking like serious business handling these ironically light props. The blasters look heavy, but they were easy to handle. There was even a touch of a tesseract during our time with the props.
Mind Fracker Gone Wrong
During our set tour, we were able to tour a skrull ship and have a little fun looking around. At the time, we didn’t know it was a skrull ship, but were told this massive set would be an integral part of the film.
We were able to take photos in this contraption that we were told Brie Larson herself had used, but we weren’t told what it was. Once we saw the trailer a few months later, we realized it was the mind fracker Carol Danvers endures during her storyline.
But, what we didn’t realize is that we were taking our cute photos wrong. Carol was upside down in the mind fracker, while we were smiling politely and posing incorrectly. Hilarious!
Viewing The Captain Marvel Wardrobe
I love being able to look at the wardrobe on television and movie sets. Seeing the costumes in person is so overwhelmingly fun. As an Air Force veteran, it was surreal to see Carol’s uniforms in the wardrobe trailer. Every single one was vintage, and it was amazing to see that Marvel was honoring the classic flight suits, physical exercise uniforms and pilot jackets from the 80s and 90s.
As a female veteran of the Air Force, and a huge Marvel fan, this film means so much to me personally. Seeing those uniforms, being on set to see Brie film, holding blasters like a hero, it all fills my heart.
This was a once in a lifetime experience, and I’ll never forget it. And Mr. Jackson, if you’re reading this, Tania loves you!
Captain Marvel is in theaters on March 8th!
