Let’s break!
This is a phrase that is used quite a bit in our home. As home learners for 6 years, it’s been essential to learn when to take a brain break.
For our family, that means moving. An energizing break is the kind that all 3 of my kids respond to, and no matter the age, all kids need to give their bodies a stretch during those long school days.
5 Minutes of Fun
When thinking about taking brain breaks, keep it short and sweet. 5 minutes of an activity is more than enough to keep kids, and you, focused and energetic for the rest of the day.
One activity we do is a classic game of toss. We move the backyard and play a quick game of hot potato with one of our balls. It gets the kids giggling, but also moving in a rhythm.
Another activity we do when it may be rainy outside is high jump. What is high jump, you ask? Basically, we see who can jump the highest. It sounds so simple, but it really gets everyone in a great mood. Plus, the kids always seem to think of inventive ways to get the highest jump.
Take high jump to the next level by setting a timer on your cell phone, and having everyone jump right when the photo is taken. Boom. You have instant evidence of the winner!
Breaks Need Snacks
A break is always better with a nutritious snack. Lately, we’ve been into the Simple Mills Almond Crackers & Crunchy Cookies. We discovered them at our local Meijer store, and had to stock up for our snack breaks.
From Fine Ground Sea Salt, Sprouted Seed Everything and Farmhouse Cheddar Crackers, to the Crunchy Almond Flour Cookies in Chocolate Chip, we’ve all found our favorites. I take 5 minutes to create a snack board that the kids and I can enjoy after a long school day.
Simple Mills Almond Crackers & Crunchy Cookies include ingredients that are meant to nourish you. No artificial ingredients, ever.
Since I recognize every ingredient, I feel so much better giving these to my kids, and to myself. Delicious snacks that feel good to eat. I call that a win-win!
