Halloween Cookies With A Surprise

Halloween is all about candy and sweets, so why not make these Hocus Pocus cookies with some fun sprinkles? We’re big Hocus Pocus fans (we watch it on repeat every October), so the announcement of Hocus Pocus 2 had us giddy. I had to make a dessert to honor my girls Winifred, Sarah, and Mary — the Sanderson Sisters.

Here are some of the spooky ingredients:

What Can I substitute in this recipe?

Because this recipe is supposed to represent The Sanderson Sisters as much as possible, there aren’t many things you can substitute. While the butter, sugars, and flour cannot be replaced, you can easily switch out the chocolate chip flavors. Caramel, semi-sweet, or peanut butter chips would be ghoulishly good in this recipe.

Can I make this a different way?

Cookies are all made this way for a reason: it works! I wouldn’t try to make these in any other way. This recipe is really great all on its own. We even have a Valentine’s Day cookie recipe that’s quite similar to this one, and it’s also a big hit in our home during the holidays.

While the cake flour may seem like an Ingredient you can skip, please make sure you do not. It creates a cakelike cookie that works well with the crunchy texture of the sprinkles.
