The Story Behind Cars 3 #Cars3Event

Sharing is caring!

Speeding Through San Francisco for #Cars3Event!

Thank you to Disney Animation Studios for inviting me to attend this event. All opinions and experiences are my own.

I’ve always wondered what inspires the Pixar Animators when they are creating movie magic. We all know that any Disney film is all about the story, and Cars 3 is no exception.

Cars 3 writers

During our #Cars3Event, we were able to talk with the Cars 3 writers Mike Rich, Kiel Murray and story supervisor Scott Morse. Kiel was the only person in this trio who has worked on the Cars franchise before. She was a write for Cars.

The question that many fans like us ask about sequels is if the story will be worth watching. The cool part is that Pixar writers and animators also ask the same thing. We hear time and time again that story is king when it comes to Disney, so the writers of our favorite films always focus on if a new, or next, story is worth telling. With Cars 3, the team wanted to figure out if there was a new story to share with fans. And if so, where would that story come from?

The Evolution of Lightening McQueen

One story we all are anticipating for Cars 3 is the evolution of Lightening McQueen. Kiel, Mike, and Scott all expressed how this would be a challenge for them. They said it was interesting to create problems for the “guy who has everything.”

Here’s the cool part: everyone has a challenge they have to deal with, even Lightening McQueen. I loved hearing that the team met with retired sports superstars like Jeff Gordon and Kobe Bryant, to find out what life is like when you decide to let go of the career that meant so much to your life. But, this did give the writers a backstory to work with, and it inspired them to be intentional about the new characters they would introduce into this story.

New Cars 3 Characters That Mean Something

I have to say, I am really excited about the new characters that we meet in Cars 3. Cruz Ramirez became my new favorite character because of what she represents. Being a millennial mom who has her own idols, I could relate with Cruz right away. She has her own dreams, but helps those that are the top of the top in the racing circles to achieve theirs. Her interaction with Lightening McQueen throughout the movie made us laugh and touched my heart. We only watched 42 minutes of the film, but the connection between Lightening and Cruz described what we all feel if we ever get to spend time with our idols. The story behind us loving those that we admire, and those that we admire understanding why we love them.

I truly can’t wait for you to see the story behind Cars 3, and I can’t wait for everyone to fall in love with this film. Have you seen the latest trailer? Check it out:
