Star Wars: The Bad Batch 1st Episode Review

Sharing is caring!

The story of Clone Force 99 needed to be explored, and Star Wars: The Bad Batch 1st episode gives us just that.

This 70-minute episode catches us up with the beloved Bad Batch from season 7 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and shows what happened after Executive Order 66.

Who Are The Bad Batch?

If you didn’t see the 4 episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars featuring this ragtag team, here’s some information about them.

The Bad Batch were created during Kaminoan experiments. They were trying to develop clone commandos.

The Bad Batch includes Hunter, Echo, Tech, Wrecker, and Crosshair. Each member has unique skills and abilities.

  • Hunter is the leader of the crew. He has strong senses that allow him to expertly track targets.
  • Echo has a vast knowledge of military tactics and strategy. He also has socket-arm and cybernetic implants.
  • Tech is a computer and weapons specialist, and he’s able to process technical issues faster than most droids.
  • Wrecker likes to “blow things up” and smash things. He’s the largest of the crew and has the biggest heart.
  • Crosshair has an exceptional vision. He’s seen as a superior marksman.

The Talent Behind The Bad Batch

This first episode starts deep in action, and that’s exactly what the team behind this new Disney Plus series wanted us to experience as we re-visit the Clone Wars storyline.

Executive Producers Dave Filoni, Athena Portillo, Jennifer Corbett, and Brad Rau did a wonderful job of taking us on an adventure in “Aftermath.”

Brad Rau is also Supervising Director of the series, and Jennifer Corbett is Head Writer. During a recent press conference, Corbett said she called upon her time in the U.S. Navy to create a script that shows the camaraderie of this crew.

I think that’s what I try to bring to it, is how this squad, even though they are elite soldiers, they are family. But they don’t have to agree all the time, and [on] all the different perspectives that each of them brings because they’re all so very different.

Is Star Wars: The Bad Batch For Kids?

Since this is an animated series on Disney Plus, you would assume it’s safe for kids. You assumed correctly.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch has just enough action and storyline to keep ages 6 to 15 enthralled. The 1st episode can be quite long for younger children, but there are pops of action and humor to keep kids engaged.

If your goal is to keep your younger ones interested throughout the first episode, ask them simple questions about the storyline. One question I asked my 6-year-old during each 3rd of the episode was “who’s your favorite of the crew so far?”

With shorter episodes following “Aftermath” I’m sure Star Wars: The Bad Batch will become your little Star Wars fan’s new favorite show.
